50 cent Classic Silver Commemorative Coins
Highlight for Album: Texas Centennial 1934

Album: Texas Centennial 1934

This one has sentimental value to me since I come from Texas. :) Besides, it's a really nice coin! I would grade it about MS-63 at least.

I'm not too happy with the photo I took of this one. It was taken in direct sunlight on a bright day, and you can see that the surfaces become "pixelish" when this happens, similar to when a halogen lamp is used. The coin next to it, the Oregon Trail commemorative, was taken with the exact same camera settings, but more subdued sunlight. As you can see, the effect is much more pleasant.

Eventually I will get around to replacing this photo with a better one.

Album: Oregon Trail - 1926-S

One of the most beautiful numismatic designs I have yet to see is that of the Oregon Trail commemorative coins.

This one is a nice example; unfortunately, there are some blotchy areas on the reverse which suggest that this coin might have been lightly cleaned some time in the past. However, it doesn't detract too much from this otherwise uncirculated specimen.

Very nice, strong design with stunning luster. The numerous little marks on the obverse would make me grade this one only MS-62, although the reverse is much better than that (maybe MS-64), so net grade might be MS-63 for this one.

Album: Columbian Exposition 1892

The 1892 Columbian Expo is slightly scarcer than the 1893, so I am happy to have this one in such good condition. The reverse is especially impressive; except for some chatter and tiniest of marks on the obverse and a very slight rim flattening at 3 o'clock (reverse), the coin has no faults that I can see. The fields are especially clean on the reverse. I would grade it MS-63, although the little marks might bring it down to MS-62.

Not quite as nice as the 1892 coin, but still AU-55 or so.

Very attractive toning (to me!) on the obverse of this one; the reverse is similar, but spread more evenly across the entire coin. Probably grades AU-50 or so. It is definitely a coin with character!

This coin is interesting because there is some doubling around the letters of "STATES". Also, there are lots of die polish marks and little die cracks through the obverse lettering.

The reverse, as is often the case with all sorts of coins, is in better shape than the obverse. There seems to be some doubling on "PILGRIM" — not sure what the little mark on the "G" is, though. It is possibly a tooling mark of some kind, and it is almost invisible to the naked eye without magnification.

This coin seems hard to find in MS condition, although in lower grades there are lots of them offered on eBay, for example. And that's where I bought this one (cheap, too!)

It has some splotchy areas and was probably lightly cleaned sometime in the past. Too bad, because it has a good strike and would otherwise be a nice uncirculated specimen!
